Hello Surfistas, and welcome to Sunset Point in the beautiful Pacific Palisades, CA! This spot offers a unique experience for beginner surfers looking to catch some waves in a stunning setting. Let's get you prepared and ready to ride those waves!
Location:
Sunset Point, Pacific Palisades, CA
Recommended Surfboards:
For beginners at Sunset Point, we suggest longboards, around 8 feet or longer, and foamies. These boards provide stability and are perfect for mastering the waves here.
Parking:
You'll find street parking available along Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), but during busy times, you might need to park a bit farther down the road. There's also a paid parking lot next to Gladstones for convenience.
Surf Break Type:
Sunset Point is known for its point break. This means waves peel along the point, providing consistent and often perfect waves.
Beginner-Friendly Conditions:
Sunset Point offers conditions that are generally beginner-friendly. However, it's recommended not to go during high tide, as it can make it a bit challenging to get in and out of the water. Opt for any tide below 3 feet for an easier experience.
Ideal Tide:
For a smoother entry and exit, aim for tides below 3 feet. At higher tides, you can enter from the southern point of Sunset, but keep in mind that waves may break closer to the rocks.
Amenities:
Sunset Point has a more natural setting, so be prepared:
No Showers or Bathrooms: There's a porta potty available, but no permanent facilities.
Footwear Recommendation:
Given the rocky nature of the break, we highly recommend wearing booties for added foot protection.
Crowds:
Sunset Point tends to be less crowded than some other spots in Southern California. It can get busy on good days during the summer and weekends. However, it's always a good idea to be mindful of other surfers and enjoy the serene setting.
Additional Tips:
Respect the Environment: Sunset Point is a beautiful natural area, so please keep it clean and respect the environment.
